Favorite thing about practicing Emergency Medicine at Indiana:
I think the combination of a Trauma Level 1 county and academic facility, and a Trauma Level 1 pediatric hospital gives you an unparalleled clinical experience. In addition, the diverse faculty are amazing clinical teachers and assist you in finding your niche within the field of emergency medicine.
Random fact:
On our honeymoon, my wife and I went to Disney World and on one of the days we went to Disney Hollywood Studios. When we got there I was so excited that I locked our keys in our rental car while the car was still running. We found out when we returned 10 hours later. Luckily, I had AAA and they unlocked the car for free. It somehow still had 1/4 tank of gas left! Moral of the story: always remember to turn your rental car off and have the keys in hand before locking the doors.

My fellow residents were the coolest group of people that I met on the interview trail and the class of 2015/17 is awesome. The faculty are great educators and fun people to work with. It is great to be able to work at 2 high volume but distinct level 1 trauma sites in Methodist and Wishard.

A great curriculum, with multiple high volume EDs and tons of critical care time. Indy is a fun city with plenty of museums, professional sports teams, bars, restaurants and great people.
Random fact:
I once successfully destroyed a stop light with a 20 foot trailer while working for the local highway department in college, bringing it crashing down into the middle of a busy road. Just a bit of advice...take wider turns than I did. Unbelievably, I kept my job. I have never pulled a trailer of any sort since...

My fellow residents create a sense of family that extends from the leadership and permeates the program. There is an insane amount of volume here: 3 level one trauma centers with nearly 250k visits between them. There is a mix of "private" and "county" styles within an impressive group of academic faculty who excel in teaching and are leaders in EM. And Indianapolis is a great place to live! There are many excellent restaurants, breweries, concert venues, museums and shopping districts to enjoy.

Random fact:
I was the first female polevaulter in my high school. I also competed in the Junior Olympics in New Orleans for gymnastics when I was 12 (for which there is a truly awkward television interview I did for the local news station!). Another random note, I was married to my husband via webcam while I was in the states and he was deployed to Iraq. Technically, we have two anniversaries due to the time zone difference - it was Sept 4th for me and the 5th for him.
