About me

Dr. Verghese obtained her medical degree from Christian Medical College in India, where she also completed her pediatric residency.  Mary then spent two years working in Medical Missions in India, where she gained experience caring for acutely ill patients and performing emergency surgeries.  She immigrated to the United States in 1998 and completed a pediatric residency at New York Medical College in Westchester.  While at NYMC, she received the Resident Teaching Award as a second-year resident and the Outstanding Outgoing Resident Award as a third-year resident.  Additionally, she served as Chief Resident from 2003 to 2004.

In July 2004, Mary was appointed as full time faculty in the Department of Pediatrics at the IU School of Medicine, beginning her career in the Riley Emergency Department.  In 2007, Mary was appointed as Assistant Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics.  In 2008, she received the Red Shoes Award for contributions to family centered care at Riley Hospital. She enjoys clinical teaching and taking care of acutely ill children, and she works exclusively night shifts in the Riley ED.

During her free time, Mary keeps busy with her family, activities at her church, and helping the underprivileged in her community.  She is also keenly interested in Medical Missions and hopes to find more opportunities to be involved in the future.
