Cory Pitre, MD, grew up on the bayou in Houma, Louisiana. After undergraduate study at Tulane University, he earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, training at the old Charity Hospital and graduating in 2002. Cory completed residency training with Indiana University Emergency Medicine in 2005, serving as chief resident during his last year. After a brief stint in community medicine, he joined the IUEM faculty in 2005. He works clinically at Methodist Emergency Department, and he received ABEM Certification in 2006.
Cory has interest in clinical education, curriculum development, and educational leadership. From 2010-2015, he served as the Statewide Patient Care Competency Director for the IU School of Medicine, leading the school’s longitudinal patient care curriculum and helping to develop the Transitions course series for the school’s new curriculum. He has taught numerous sessions and courses in the IU School of Medicine and for the IUEM residency. Nationally, he has taught for the American Academy of Emergency Medicine’s Oral Boards Review Course.
Outside the hospital, Cory enjoys spending time with his family, biking, traveling, playing blues/r&b/jazz/rock/country guitar, and cooking.
