After playing college basketball under Coach Bob Knight at Indiana University and serving as co-captain of the 1989 Big Ten champion Hoosiers, Brian played professional basketball in the hoops hotbed of Taiwan for one year after college.
After this less than fruitful experience he realized his basketball career was over and he spent one year working for Pfizer pharmaceuticals as a sales representative. Brian then went on to medical school where he graduated in 1997 from Indiana University.
In 2000 Brian completed his residency in Emergency Medicine here at IU where he was awarded the 2000 resident teacher of the year honor. With his interest in sports and academic medicine he then went on to South Bend Indiana where he completed a fellowship in primary care sports medicine that was sponsored by St. Joseph’s Medical Center. This fellowship has given Brian the skills and training to help teach musculoskeletal examination and diagnosis to our residents, students, and off service rotators.
Brian has served as a team physician for local high schools, has been an IRL and Indianapolis Motor Speedway track physician and he has also been the medical director of the largest half marathon in the US right here in Indianapolis.
Brian has several publications to his credit as well as a book chapter in Essentials of Emergency Medicine. He also serves as a reviewer for Academic Emergency Medicine. He teaches two year directed conferences that include splinting and orthopedic examination.
Brian is married and has three children. He enjoys coaching youth sports, hunting (ask him about his first archery buck), reading, history and attending sporting events with his family.
