Resident Rotation


BEFORE starting Rotation:

  • You will recieve an email from the Ultrasound Division about a week prior to your rotation with a rotation schedule, directions on how to prepare for this rotation and pre-rotation reading.
  • Login to OnCourse. On the top bar, you will see a tab for IUEM Ultrasound. On the left, click on Modules, and this will take you to the table of contents. Be sure you have reviewed the tutorials for Qpath. Use this information to login to QPath, and change your password. You should be familiar with all of these materials BEFORE your ultrasound block begins.
  • Please bring $25 as a deposit to check out the required US text from Jim Graber on the first day of your rotation 
  • Complete CITI training and send a certificate of completion.
 

During Rotation:

  • Complete 100 exams correctly entered into QPath
  • You will be required to attend Academic Conference during the block. Generally scheduled on Friday mornings and include QA review, literature review, and individual topical presentations.
  • You will be required to present an educational project of an ultrasound topic of your choice. Typically given the last Academic Friday of the block. The topic should be decided and cleared by one of the US faculty before the end of the second week of the block.
  • Make sure to keep up to date on submitting your studies to QPath - they need to be submitted within 72 hrs for credit.

End of Rotation:

  • Make sure to coordinate a time for your end of rotation OSCE/SDOT with US faculty.
  • Return US book to Jim Graber.
  • Submit your electronic presentation
  • Give feedback regarding the rotation
  • Required number of scans for graduation.

Medical Student Elective Rotation


BEFORE starting Rotation:

  • Pre-rotation reading will be emailed to you prior to starting the elective. This reading includes links to videos (Physics, Aorta, Cardiac, FAST and OB), which you should also review.
  • Please bring $25 as a deposit to check out the required US text from Jim Graber on the first day of your rotation.
  • Complete CITI training and send a certificate of completion.


During Rotation:
  • You will be required to attend Academic Conference during the rotation. Generally scheduled on Friday mornings and include QA review, literature review, and individual topic presentations.
  • You will be required to present an educational project/critical appraisal of an ultrasound topic of your choice. Typically given the last Friday of the block. The topic should be decided and cleared by one of the US faculty.
  • Make sure to keep up to date on submitting your studies to Qpath - need to be submitted within 72 hrs for credit.
  • You will be expected to scan with US faculty, fellows and rotating residents, as well as independently. You must perform at least 50 independent ultrasound examinations during the elective:
    • 15 eFAST exams
    • 15 Cardiac exams
    • 5 Aorta exams
    • 5 OB exams
    • 10 other (which may include DVT, ocular, gallbladder, vascular access, soft tissue, etc)

End of Rotation:

  • Make sure to coordinate a time for your end of rotation OSCE/SDOT with US faculty.
  • Return US book to Jim Graber
  • Submit your electronic presentation
  • Give feedback regarding the rotation
