Horizon House
It is a day time shelter that does a multitude of services. Mary K Mitchell (former ED nurse and now an NP) and Sue Gaebler (who was at Indy Connect) are there. It operates just like the other clinics – Wishard Gopher order entry, prescriptions etc. Almost all of the routinely prescribed antibiotics, nsaids, phenytoin, and diabetic meds are in stock. There is also a financial counselor who is the BEST in the system – able to get people on Wishard Advantage in 24-48 hrs. For some pts who we just cannot get into primary care - Charlie Kelley (Wishard MD) comes 1 day a week for about 2 hours to see those pts for some primary care. Other services include wound care, foot care and any follow-up from the ED or hospital that needs to be tied up.

Wheeler Mission
Tuesday and Thursdays clinics 1800-2000
No need to commit to a regular day and time (can do it every 2,3,4,5, 6 months if you wish) but they would need to have you on the schedule in advance. Mostly see URI’s, rashes and nasty feet. Some hypertension mgmt. Stocks meds donated by Wishard pharmacy—no controlled substances to make it easier. Work with a nurse and usually a med student or 2.
Wheeler Mission has a WIDE variety of volunteer physicians and every night of the week is a different person/group. They only do medical care in the evening. Dr Hamaker/ Dr Kelley and I'm not sure who else from IUMG go on Thurs I believe. There are a few cardiologists who come... Everyone is doing 'urgent care' just a variety of backgrounds. They have dental that comes 1-2 times/ month. They also have a podiatrist who comes 1-2 times a month. They typically do not write rx's. They have no computer access to RCIS.
