Diversity
The Emergency Medicine (EM) community provides health care to the broadest and most diverse patient population in America. However, the overall EM workforce demographics are significantly dissimilar from the US population. The Department of Emergency Medicine within the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) values diversity not only in our patient population, but in our collective faculty and residency. The pool of under-represented minority (URM) applicants remains small, yet the Department of Emergency Medicine is committed to expanding our representation of minorities in our incoming residency classes and future faculty hires. If you are an URM and wish to learn more about Indianapolis, IUSM or our residency, please contact us.
Sheryl E. Allen, MD, MS was appointed as an Assistant Dean for Diversity Affairs in the Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development’s Division of Diversity Affairs. Dr. Allen is responsible for assisting with the School of Medicine’s efforts to recruit and retain residents from underrepresented backgrounds as junior faculty members. Dr. Allen will work with medical students as one of the faculty advisors for the Student National Medical Association (SNMA).
